Hello everyone, i know that 90s boxes are given not too much love here as most of them were ugly eggs, but this week i managed to get one really good 90s box in my hold- Panasonic RX-ES30.

It probably came out with Panasonic RX-ED77 The Cobra and they are bit similar from here and there, but this one was the first of those Panasonic RX-ES "Wedge" series. It´s slightly smaller than Cobra, but sounds also really good and powerful and it´s bass is just excellent, sound is one of the best i´ve heard so far, from 90s boxes i´ve heard this will be placed on 2nd place, after the Cobra, i can´t tell the sound difference, but Cobra does have bigger drivers and bigger output power as well.
Today i managed to clean it too, It was just really dusty, speakers were literally covered with a thick carpet of dust that was really hard to get cleaned off, but i managed to do it somehow, opened it up as well and cleaned it internally, all vent holes were just blocked with dust. I highly recommend having this box, one really cool feature it has is that it has also remote compatibility and you have so many options on the remote control. Deck of course is full logic controlled. Few minuses are that the CD tray is opened mechanically, so you push the button and then spring loaded mechanism slides the tray open, but that´s reasonable as it was one of the first ones from Sledge series. Here is also a picture of the actual piece.
Along with this piece i also have 2 more 90s boxes that are fairly good: Sony CFD-V20 & Aiwa CSD-ED37.

Compared to this ES30 many of my boxes sound really poor, you don´t need big and wide speakers, it has quite small speakers but they produce very colorful, pure and bassy sound. Now i´m looking forward to get a Panasonic RX-ED77, the real Cobra ! :-)

Yeah they are all good these Pannys. I have had the above model before and it was solid.

I have the Panasonic RX-DT75 and the Panasonic RX ED 707 (for sale) at the moment and they both sound stunning. I don't think there is a bad cobra top.

This thing sure is solid, smaller than i thought and at first glance drivers were miserable to me, but when i switched it on, i had to take my words back. I don´t think there´s any bad Panasonic ever made :w00t: Cobra tops and all this RX-DT/ED/ES range is the best you can choose from.

They are, RX-ES20 came right after this one i suppose along with ES23/ES27/ES29 etc., but ES30 looks more 90´s box than those silver ones  But in overall, wedge is a wedge, ES20 is basically the same thing but with motor eject for CD-drive.

Heard the ED77 before and it is a beautiful sounding box. My DT-909 can destroy many heavy hitters from 80s.

I agree with you, since Monday i´m also a Cobra owner, but mine needs work on CD deck and both cassette decks so i´m judging it by the radio, but drivers are big and sound is wide, bassy and colourful especially with Incredible Surround enchancement. Definitely recommend getting one, this thing is true "egg beater" and i can proudly say as well that it demolishes quite a few 80s boxes as well.

I took possession of an RX-ES30 today, I like the sleek lines and found listening to the box when it is well below ear level improves the perception of the Bass tones. I quite like it although the headphone socket being situated at the rear of the box didn't impress me much, I just need to find the right situation tor this box to make the most of the nice sound it produces.

It's an 8/10 from me for a 90's box.

Agree with everything you say, but there is one "Wedge" sounding almost supernatural, the Panasonic RX-ED77 a.k.a Cobra , this is total egg destroyer and puts many 80s boxes in shame by sound as well

It is a good thing not many people know they are great sounding boxes. They call them eggs and walk away!
Indeed, but remember one thing: Never underestimate the power of Wedge ! :w00t:  Both ES30 and ED77 are very good Panasonic Power Blasters, ED77 looks cooler and sounds way better as well, I do recommend to have ED77 as it´s a must have for Panasonic collectors and serious boombox collectors, those who have heard it like it, it´s big and heavy too, doesn´t look as good as golden era 80s boxes. As all Pannys from ES-series are almost the same looking, i suggest having one as well, they sound fairly good.
