Changing voltage on a Victor RC-550

So I got a Victor RC-550 from Peppin in Hong Kong half an hour ago. It's 110V with no voltage selector. I live in Australia with 240V. I'm running it off batteries right now but I'm just a bit scared that some dumb &*$% might plug it in and blow it up. I will get a DC input I guess but wondering if anyone knows if this is easy to change?

Sure if you can find a 220v replacement transformer that has same output as bbx needs....

I think I'll try and find a 12V DC input that fits, they're usually a bit smaller no? For portability's sake.

I have a ton of 12v supplies. If you want to wait a couple of weeks I will be in Melbourne

I know it's a long shot but you could consider finding a less valuable JVC model from the same era with a working multi voltage transformer. My RC-727 from 1977 is not for sale but as an example, could have a similar transformer unit (110v, 220v, 240) selectable via a switch under the unit. The 727 is a 12v 8 'D' cell unit. The power requirements of the RC-550 are probably very different but who knows?!

Below are 9 photos of the part of my RC-727. It might be worth pulling the back off yours to compare. The transformer on these are super easy to remove as the 3 wires have connectors. Even if the transformer bracket is different, you could just pull the transformer. You wouldn't need the voltage selection opening either after you confirm 240v has been selected.

I got mine from Ebay for $39.00 AUD.

The RC-550 might have a completely different arrangement but you never know.

Hey thanks man, that's the idea I was looking for. Sadly my only other JVC that takes 8Ds looks a fair bit newer. I'll open up the RC-550 and have a look soon, and keep an eye out for a donor.

Well I was gonna say, just pop in a transformer from Jaycar, that's what I usually do. It's hard to find one for things like Toshiba or Pioneer which run on 13.5V but a 12 or a 15 is easy, I buy the 240V unit which has choice between a few voltages, it only costs $11.
