Don't know why I was thinking of this but I remember many manufacturers back in the day would make home stereos, Walkmans and Boomboxes but for some reason never made any car stereos, or at least I don't remember any. Example is Sharp, Panasonic and Sanyo. I know there were Pioneer, JVC, Sony, Aiwa etc that made car stereos..... Then now that I think about it there were car stereos made but no Boomboxes or Walkmans by Alpine, Jensen ect.... Weird 😕

I guess that was conditionally split the market -
Big manufacturers such as Sony, JVC etc are producing more products.
The smaller manufacturers such as Alpine are specializing in car audio.

They all had car stereos including the 3 brands you mentioned and sanyo had scores of car stereos including some fine biamped setups.

Eeee, when I started driving, car radios weren't standard but an optional extra and, if you were rich/lucky/unfortunate enough your car would be broken into just for the radio. Looking back, it's not as it the radios were anything like todays high-tech equipment, just fairly basic mono jobs -- some posh folk even had cassette players! I tell ya, they really did!!!

Back in the day, most radios used the universal DIN mounting, making them easy to steal, until the OEM's finally wised up and made each radio unique to each car.

What about adding a subforum for vintage car radios?
Lots of people here (including me) are also vintage car nuts, so it would be nice to have chats and see pics of vintage car stereo units.

I had a Panasonic similar to this in '95 but believe the model number was CQ-ID90...Mine had the radio ID capability and the face flipped down to access the cassette.

Earlier this year, before I joined this forum, I changed the originally fitted radio/cassette in my car for a radio.CD with Aux/SD and fark-knows-what Inputs 'cos I thought the tape deck was finally worn out. Bearing in mind my car is well over 20 years old I could understand this BUT..................having improved my knowledge somewhat I now think all it needed was demagnetising!

For ssome little good or medium size radio Norm.

This Roadstar spreads in 4 parts: Tuner, amplified deck, equalizer and a mini amplified module.
The deck have a little problem on auto-reverse mode (works in looping) and all the rest works fine and in a real nice... ...I could say near mint condition.

I'm the second owner and buy for a customization box, but because it's so classy, i decide to do nothing with him.

An TPR 950 sounds "real good" to me.

I will take better pics.

Cheers.

When I started driving cars it had a cartridge tape player in it and to have a radio in a car was a BIG thing in those days. No brand name was on it! :w00t: :w00t:
It looked something like the one in the pic!

Now I drive one with voice commands!

Nakamichi TD-1200!
Alpine 7347 reference deck w/Dolby B,C,and DBX! I've had once since 85'! Insane tape deck signal to noise ratio and sensitivity.
Then there was a Kenwood model about the same time that was killer.
Then the Blaupunkt SQR-Berlin! W/Goosenexk!
More show then go but still very nice.
Yes I'm a car audio nut to!😎😀

the best car stereo i ever owned was an old alpine shaft mount radio with the black aluminum knobs and the green back lit buttons. it got stolen of course along with my alpine 3522 amp. that was my first car amp too , i got it cheap because somebody spilled white paint all over it . i tell you the sound quality was amazing.
