Not news to me. These old companies are selling out to China.
Might as well cash in before value of company gets worse.
No other part of the western countries can compete with low chinese labour rates.
Would you work for 10 cents and hour ?

Fair point, but Matsushita aren't Chinese owned or run. Their Panasonic factory is down there in England, (Slough in Berkshire), right by the factory - now part of Mars confectionery - where Citroen built their cars from 1926 while 1966.

According to the web:

"Panasonic Corporation, formerly known as Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., is a Japanese multinational electronics corporation headquartered in Kadoma, Osaka, Japan. Wikipedia"

BTW, I'll be re-badging all of my Sanyo boxes with Panasonic logo's...so please mail me your unused Panasonic logo's :-D

HQ in Japan, yes, but factories are in Slough (in a small country known as England) and Cardiff (in an even smaller country known as Wales, most famous for Tom Jones and millions of sheep).
They also have a factory across the Irish sea in the RoI.

We compete with the Chinese head to head every day and my company still beats them in overall value. We ship parts to China and Japan and Mexico. The Chinese plants haven't been able to get their scrap rate below 50% even after 6 years worth of trying. Most of the time you get what you pay for.

There is no doubt you get what you pay for. Good to hear there is still some manufacturing done in the UK and US. Even if the profits leave the country :-/

Thats why I still only buy Panasonic products to this day. They want no part of the smartphone wars. I will never buy any samsung or sony products.

Yeah, they've been a bit quiet in the global smartphone marketplace since the days when Panasonic's non-smartphone handsets were constant best sellers alongside Nokia/Philips, Sagem, Ericsson et al but their newest device is much fancied as the means by which they're going to return to the top of their game. They've been practising all these years though, since their products have always been strong in the Japanese market where phone technology took off at a tangent compared to how the rest of the world was doing it.
Last year's Eluga received lukewarm reviews but their soon to be released updated version should kick Samsung, LG, Huawei and Alcatel right into touch.

I'm due a contract upgrade in March but will keep my HTC1 a while longer if the latest version of Eluga isn't out by then. My only reservation is its name! I ask you; Eluga, what were they thinking of? :-)

I've never even heard of this....OR I have and my brain blocked out that stupid name!
You'll have to teach me how to do that, Chris. It could come in handy on the weekends. :hmmm:

As in "I'm sorry Honey. My brain totally blocked out that honey-do list..."
