Boombox Mellotron

Ultra boombox collector, Junichi Matsuzaki, has a new project called Boombox Mellotron. Check it out:

"The Mellotron has the same effective behaviour as a sampler, but generates its sound via audio tape. When a key is pressed, a tape connected to it is pushed against a playback head, similar to one found on a cassette recorder. While the key remains depressed, the tape is drawn over the playback head, and a sound is played. When the key is released, a spring pulls the tape back to its original position."

That Paul McCartney video is awesome, The Beatles are easily my favorite band, it's cool to see Paul in his own space like that, the Mellotron, what an idea.

Even more interesting, hooking all those boxes up like that.
