I predict It's not going to be a good review, Ira. In fact, the "bullet" might not itself be "bullet-proof." :-D

lol! me? forgot? never!
here's the story though.
i got it. unpacked it. plugged it in.
turned on the radio and it was bumpin. :stereo:
(even taylor swift was bumpin and anyone who listens to the radio knows that girl is on every station!)
opened the CD lid? perfect.
opened the tape door? uh oh. tape door won't open.
so of course, i go to turn it off to begin the checklist again from the beginning.
it won't turn off. instead, the lcd starts blinking like i need to set the clock.
as a last resort, i unplug the sucker.
plugged it back in and tried again but got the same results. :-/

so...it has to go to the shop. i immediately bugged Superduper about it via PM and we (he) pretty much came to the conclusion that the problem must be a belt in the cassette deck. it's either slipped or is broken. since the deck is full logic, it must be locking the heads in the engaged position thus activating the pin that locks the door. it's probably doing this to save the motor from getting burnt out. hopefully i can get this sorted out soon. and hopefully fixing the deck will solve the on/off power button problem. but who knows.

for the few minutes i did listen to it, i thought it was great! it produced more of the sound i'm accustomed to hearing. it came real close to being on the same level as the klipsch i use for my computer. like, it'll go louder than the klipsch but it won't knock as hard.

its the single 1/8 inch jack - well hidden in the back :-)

i am glad you like the sound --
definitely miles from hi-fi

but it sure can move some big air :-D :w00t:

That's a bitter sweet story BM, hope you get her fixed up with out much trouble.
 i hope so too. it's in such great condition, i don't want to send it back. i mean, that'll just risk more damage. there's hardly a scratch on it. the owner's manual is still in it's plastic baggy. the remote looks like it's hardly been used. it's just a real nice unit so i'll try whatever (reasonable) it takes to fix it.

lol  always the salesman in regards to the kabooms, ira! no, i won't forget the aux-in. but this thing isn't old enough yet to accept a knackered deck. some of my older boxes, i cut 'em a little slack. they're old and tired. it's ok if they don't feel like playing tapes anymore. radio and line-in will suffice. but this kaboom needs to start pulling its weight. i really like the sound but i'm not not even going to compare to the classic boomboxes. they're 2 totally different things. that's why i compared it to the klipsch.

and no i'm not sending you flowers every week for the awesome recommendation lol!

My experience is that Kaboom tape decks fail early. When I got one used with a locked deck (and tape inside), I was furious. When one I bought new (and used to play fine) did it, I began to understand. These full logic decks have a very short life. If I remember correctly, when the deck goes, some switch doesn't work, either: power or function. Can't quite remember; haven't used mine in a while. Nasty problem, but seems to happen to all of 'em.

A little more detail would be helpful to ka-boombox users. When the deck "goes" -- does that mean belts go?

yeah do you have any idea what exactly failed inside the deck? belt, gear, roller, motor, etc.? were you able to fix it or did you have to junk the unit? i'm real curious about this. thanks for the info Boomer.
