Best tuner in a Boombox?

I would like to hear everyone's opinion on what boxes had the best sounding FM tuner as well as the best AM tuner for receiving distant stations?

Hello and Welcome to the site!!! From my personal experience the FM tuner on my Sharp GF-575 is fantastic , you don't get any of the static noise between stations while searching and it really picks up the stations well.

I agree the 575 has strong pulling power but the quiet between stations is because there is an FM mute button which only allows strong signal to come through without the static between stations

The JVC M70 also has a strong tuner

There are guys on here with far more knowledge than me when it comes to these things, but every Sharp I have has a STELLAR tuner. Like Bill said, the M70 also my Realistic SCR-8 has a great tuner.

Your best bet is to collect around 100 radio's and make your own judgment

JVC M70, Panasonic RX 7200, 7000 and 5350 are excellent. The weighted fly wheel knob on 5350 makes it so much fun besides the tuning efficiency and sensitivity.

Thanks for the welcome and the replies! I have my first box coming soon a JVC 656 JW. Any opinions on the tuner in it? I am going to keep a look out for some of the other units mentioned here. I am mostly interested in a medium sized box with a nice tuner especially AM since I like to listen to sports and news talk..

I haven't heard a 656 before so I cant comment on that. I do, however, have a jvc 838 and that has one of the best tuners out of all my 60 or so radios

If you don't mind mono, I'd be looking for a ge super radio. They really excel at pulling in the am stations and are plentiful.

The high-end Panasonics like the 7700, 7200, 7000

Also the JVC RC-838JW

And the Aiwa TPR-950 or 955

AllPanasonic's have great tuners. The higher end Pannys are real good! M70's are awesome too. Pioneers are good too!

every panasonic boombox i had all were staticy on 102.7 in MD i dont know why

Totally agree with this
For an analog tuner , the 480 is very good

In the digital tuner i would say the GF 9797 is awesome.

I have to agree. My 9797, in fact ALL my Sharps really pull it in.

For AM, I go to my Sanyo M-9998 . Although I'm told that Sanyo AM tuners are notoriously bad, all mine are average. The 9998 for some reason pulls in an abnormal amount of stations from long distance, though.

Wonder if it's because of :superduper: and his Magic Mojo Laying On Of The Hands...the force is strong with this box! :ls-duel:

I agree with a few of you dudez.. I tried my SCR-8 last night, and it was pulling in stations no problem even with no antenna hooked up! Same thing when I 1st got my JVC 550..
