* Battery efficiency *

After many, many hours of DC play time, it was time to refill the battery compartment on my Sanyo M9998K. I'd selected the M9998K to provide the tunes for my youngest son Adam's birthday party in the park. I always thought the big Sanyo was pretty easy on its' batteries. Checking the rear specs sticker, I was reminded of the M9998K's comparatively low 30W draw on it's 10 D cells (15v).

Apart from the Hitachi TRK-9140, are there other 15V boxes out there that draw 30 Watts or less? I also noticed the M9998K has the same draw as the smaller 12V M9994K :hmmm:

By that reckoning no, it doesn't have the same draw since 30 Watts from 12 Volts uses a maximum of 2.5 Amps but 30 Watts from 15 Volts only uses 2 Amps and the capacity of a battery is measured in Amp Hours, so the 12 Volt box, assuming a battery whose every cell is of the same capacity as the ones used in the 15 Volt box, will eat its batteries 25% sooner. (Nigh enough, as there are other criteria).

Yeah, that big Sanyo is pretty economical. Sharp's GF-555 is a 15 Volt box that uses 40 Watts and my daily driver example is on the same 10 D cells that it had inside last July when it was used as an Android dock for a warehouse party at work. Its battery meter is still showing a healthy reading, so your 30 Watt Sanyo should run for years on a battery of 10 Ds.

I posted this thread last Labor Day:

I'm happy to report that I'm still on the same set of D's! They're getting pretty low, as the LED's are getting dim, so I leave them off on batteries, and it takes a good 5 seconds for the tuner to come in, but it's still alive. I'd say I use it an average of 4 hrs./week on batteries, mostly radio and line-in. The deck slowed waaayyy down months ago.
It sounds like the Sanyos have similar efficiency. My 9990 is a favorite carry box because of it's size and battery efficiency, but it's a 12V box. The 9998 is a much more formidable "portable party."
You'll have to report back when the deck starts to slow down.

Battery life has to do with the volume level you play the box, how often you use the tape deck, bass levels and all.
One can drain it by blasting it at full throttle. :yes:
My GF9696F drains it batteries so fast. :w00t:
