At last i've done it repaired my sanyo 9996 !!! since i bought this box cheap off ebay it has always had a short , it could power down at any point!!!! normally a light tap to the top gets it going, but i knew this would have to stop as the taps were getting harder and harder!! So i opened it up to deal with it and found nothing apart from the record bar seemed to be the problem as this crackles when moved. so stripped the record bar out what a nightmare millions of connections and pins and you do need to put in some force to remove it!!! not for the easily spooked( halloween ) But once out i saw the problem it had two small bits of what looked like masking tape at the top and bottom of the pins and they were well shorted very white oxidation all over this area!! A good clean removed tape and it worked no problem!! this must be a common fault which switch cleaning won't do it!! my 9998 was the same !!! just a heads up if anyone else who has a sanyo which seems to have strange short outs !!
