Is anyone here using Sony's Bravia components linked via HDMI? I'm curious whch remote is the "dominant" one in the system and how they work together?

I'm getting that Bravia TV (See my Sony customer care thread) and last night I totally scored a deal on a Sony Bravia Blu-Ray player for $42 ($57 shipped)! Now that I can fully utilize max 1080p resolution, I had to get a Blu-ray player!

Anyway, I'm considering taking this one step further and selling my Onkyo A/V Receiver in favor of a basic Sony 5.1 Bravia system so that I can eliminate some remotes. Going this route is actually cheaper than buying one of those fancy Logitech remotes.... and I will be able to control TV, Receiver and Blu-Ray player from the same remote.

I'm just curious about how well the Sony stuff works together... do I lose some functions or is it pretty all-encompassing working off of one remote???

Any feedback regarding "Bravia" is greatly appreciated.

Can't help you with the "Bravia" specific stuff, but in my experience all those pieces hooked together to use a SONY remote designed to be also multi-unit along with TV is going to leave you
wanting. I've tried that in the past with my SONY TV, DVD and AVR.
Its OK but still cumbersome.

Keep your receiver...and get a Logitech Harmony ONE. Check eBay they are rreasonable.
This is my second Harmony, first was the 880. The Harmony one is so easy once you set them up even girls can make everything work. ;-)
I control all switching functions with one touch, then seperate full functons controls avail for DVD, TV, PC Media Portal, YouTube, Amazon Video, AVR, VCR, TIVO, and 3 X10 lights plus most any other crap you want to run with remote

Seriously, for real TRUE multifunction and easy to customize , ESPECIALLY if you are going to Stream and use a PC get the Harmony ONE.

IMHO......UE

Good points, Ed. They have a Harmony 700 at BJ's for $99. Just seems crazy to spend $100 on just a remote.

I'll wait and see how the TV and Blu-Ray player operate from the same remote before I commit myself to changing receivers. I was researching my Onkyo yesterday and it did get GREAT reviews. And I can confirm that it does sound surprisingly good with my big ole' retro JBL floor speakers hooked up to it..

One of the cool features of the new TV that is coming is that it will do netflix streaming video and youtube without a PC... I can hook a LAN cable up to it directly, or use wifi.

How well does your Harmony remote work with your cable box controls?

Hi JT-My brother just bought a 52" Bravia HD Tv with a surround sound package.
I hooked it up for him.
It's really, really nice! I know it was way over 2 grand.
As far as the HDMI stuff I told him to get the other cords for the other components so it's toally using the full HD signal-I don't know if he did.
He does have the main cords for hooking it all up but it's been almost a year since I've been there.
I would go all using the HDMI components if you can.
Any other questions PM or call me-GB. :-)
