I have dozen nice 83/84/85 era blasters...mostly Panasonic...etc...4930, 4975, 5005, 5050, 5080, 5085,
Particularly having trouble with my Sony CFS500...which is equiped with full playback ff rr auto stop. All which do not operative. Which leaves issue of no power cut off when tape finishes or full rewind. I’ve opened it up countless times, removed the whole deck, I’ve done this with the 5080, I’m finding these front loader traditional style decks run into this issue whereas I’ve never had a flip over top loader deck have a auto stop issue ever. Any help would most kindly appreciated and I’ll be sure to do a wallet through here on how to solve it. Thanks

There are many different types of auto stop. You really need the service manual to figure out how it works. The later decks use complex electric eye monitoring older ones can use mechanical or interlocks with the spindles. Most of the time replacing belts fixes the issue or the best place to start.
