Hi Guys,
Well I've taken the plunge and thrown the dice on another National (Panasonic). This time, an RX-CW50 joins the crew. This box was an Ebay cheapy and actually came from the same local seller I've done business with a few times before. All his boxes are generally rough but cheap.

The box was filthy of course but looked complete. I was in a real rush so I didn't even bother to fire it up before I handed over the $11.50
On the way back, I was giving the unit a quick look over and realised the 'One Touch Dubbing' switch was broken.
After work tonight, after finally plugging the thing in for the first time, I noticed the 5 band equaliser was mostly unresponsive but the unit was otherwise fully working. The decks will need a good clean but all functions including the RCA line in appear to be working fine.
The tuner is working well, what can I say, Nationals always seem to work out of the box and this unit is no exception.
After a quick spray, the equaliser is now firing on all 5 cylinders. Both speaker connections plus the RCA inputs needed a quick spray to get things working right. Regarding sound quality, it isn't quite as bassy as my RX-C45 but the mids and highs are superior. Overall, after comparing my two examples side by side, surprisingly, I have to give the CW50 the sound off crown!! It's also louder before distortion kicks in.
After a quick exterior detail, the chrome etc came up perfectly. Wow, this unit really was minty under all the cooking fat!
I will also admit to preferring the volume pot setup of the CW50 over the slider used on the C45.
The drivers are also slightly larger on the CW50 with both units offering 7.5 watts RMS per channel.
It will be coming apart tomorrow for a deck service, fix the dubbing button etc but for now, here are a few pics of my new twin deck National:
