How can a trip to the dump be exciting you may ask, dump and exciting aren't words typically used in the same sentence. Well when you find an old radio poking out of the rubble it starts to get interesting. When you dig it out and find out its a classic blaster it gets exciting! Actually it was a friend of mine that found it and he grabbed it as he knows I'm into ol' school boxes. He hasn't had a chance to give it to me yet but he says its a Panasonic RX-C45! From what he's told me its all there and not in to rough shape, the end of the antenna is broke off. I know chances are it probably doesn't work or has a lot of issues but I'm still really pumped about this :w00t: . When I get it (and clean it up) I'll let you know if it works, and send some pics.

I got it and after shaking it around a little to listen for anything loose inside, I plugged it in and nothing  I'm not going to giving up though!

Oh hell yeah! To satisfy my curiosity I plugged it in with a cord from one of my other boxes and it WORKED  The cord was bad so somebody thought the radio was history! It appears that everything works on it, I can hardly believe it. Soon as I get er cleaned up a little better I get some pics

I used one off one of my other Panasonics (RX-5100) and it looks identical to the one that came with C45. I checked the cord with a multimeter and one side had no continuity, even when I wiggled it around. I thought for a minute there I was going to have a tape mech for you Floyd

Hey why the thumbs down on the poor little CTR-949? LOL...The Emerson 949 was my very first boombox purchase as a kid. Lots of good memories behind it too. I dont have my original, but I have 2 of em now, one silver and one black. BUT, we all have different styles and taste, thats what makes this hobby so fun. :-) Its such a good feeling to find a personal grail from back in the day, congrats on finally getting one of yours, and for free! Cleaned up nicely too ;-)

Actually my Emerson was a decent box never gave me any trouble. I had an Emerson before that one that I liked a lot but for the life of me I can't remember the model. It got stolen and with the insurance money I ended up buying the 949 cause it wasn't enough for what I really wanted.

Someone has polished the crap out of that trim!

Great, bassy sound to those C45s!
I polished it, there was some kind of yellow film on it that I couldn't get off. I think may have been a clear coat that had yellowed. It don't look as bright in person, and you can clearly see the lettering, in the pics you can't

The 1st C45 I bought was heavily corroded in that area but I resisted polishing it in fear of rubbing the lettering off.
Thankfully, my latest C45 has almost perfect metal trims.

Do you find the sound very bassy??

a little, but to me my RX5050 has as much or more bass. All in all I think it sounds very good
