Just got this in the mail(for 12 $ shipped!!!) and I have to share. I used to (and still do from time to time)d.j., put down my box and break(not so much, would crack my f'n spine), and from time to time...would "bomb trains"(tag trains to the non-writers...I was not a terrorist;). I have seen a lot of books on "graffiti" and this one is amazing. Tons of great pics and history(They talk about how hobos used to mark box cars as they crossed the country...even pics of some of these guys!). The book is presented like a college text book. Great interviews...and did I say amazing pics??? Some of the trains and walls, some of the writers, just so well done. There are profiles on cities(what's up Philly!) and writers and even little sidebars on things like "throw ups" and "black books"...Here are some pics. I am loving this. I was sitting between two boomers, listening to some old funkadelic(electric war babies) and reading this and it's like I am transported back to being a teenage punk. I recommend this book to anyone who loves graffiti, hip hop culture, or art in general. It's amazing
:breakdance: :breakdance: :breakdance: :breakdance:

yeah, your profile pic could've come out of this book

I got into the scene just as it was on it's way out(the gangs/ breakers...graffiti writers are still around), but I remember seeing this stuff when I was young, before I was into it, and being hypnotized. Then in the mid 80's, I was this kid hanging with these guys like a little mascot. I would break :breakdance: and tag walls on buildings/handball courts for them. That's how it all starts. As soon as I had my own box....hoo hooo...I was a God(in my own mind). Yeah, this book takes me back too.

 want 2 have this book!!

I got it dirt cheap. It's like a 40 dollar hardcover I got for like 11-12 dollars shipped. But I see a bunch for 15. It would be worth it at twice the face value. It is incredible

Great Book!!!
I own it along with six or seven other titles.
I also was a writer in NYC in the late eighties.
I still like to draw from time to time and enjoy collecting Graff Books and Movies.
My 10 year old son loves Graff as well and loves to draw with me, its awesome (as long as he doesn't follow in my footsteps
and keeps it on the paper and off the walls!!!! We both have piece books and share a collection of roughly 300 art markers.

That's great. Cool that you can share that with your son(and yes, probably best that he keeps in in the book). I love this book(about 2/3rds through), it is really insightful. Plus the pics are amazing. I am currently looking for a big boomer that isn't cosmetically that great(and that I can get cheap) so I can paint it up with a clean conscience.
