Alpha Tek RR MX-9 Discolite

This box just arrived yesterday evening and has me scratching my head, It's a two piece disco lite box. Quite well made with thicker plastic than usual and a snazzy touch cassette deck. It was well packed so nothing broken however it is missing some bits. A piece of Perspex which covers the main controls and a ribbon cable which powers the top from the bottom section I think. I also don't know how the top attaches to the bottom permanently? The only other one I know of is a nice example that DR DER has in Cali. Any information on this would be great as only the top section powers up.

Dear me that's big! Does the bottom section act (in a fashion) like extension speakers without disconnecting the sound from the built in speakers? Somewhat, I would think, akin to a soundbar plugged in?

Also, for this Huge BB to be truly portable it would need, say, someone with a Volvo 940SE Turbo Estate - now, who would that be.........?

I'm not sure how it attaches together to be honest Floyd. It's not really obvious looking at the two pieces.

I could have sworn i saw one of those with clasps on the outside of the speakers similar to the wx1.

The M-X9 (in all its versions) is a very interesting unit. For its peculiar architecture it reminds me of an all-time favorite of mine, the (definitely non-discolite) Mitsubishi Diatone TA-80

Wow! With light up speakers too?!
The main unit connects to the lower speaker section by use of angle brackets.. They screw into the sides of main unit, and to top of lower speaker unit in those recessed rectangular pockets.. The side speakers unlatch and slide up from main unit..
I believe the cable from main unit goes from the bottom into the top hole of lower speaker unit.. This box is pretty simple to take apart, hopefully this helps

James is correct. Not sure where James got it from? But he used to own the MX-9 thats on wikiboombox. James sold it to me, then I sold it to Dr DER LOL. She gets around dont she?

Its a huge and unique box. I've never seen one with flashing dust caps like yours though. Very cool. I'd love to see it all up and running, congratulations

We managed to build another ribbon cable and got it to power up. It briefly played on both channels for a bit and sounded good. The power switch (top) is dirty........in fact all of the controls are touchy. Three of the woofer lights are blown. Surprisingly both decks work!
Found another lead in the packaging this afternoon so will figure out where that goes.

A picture of the bracket that attaches top to bottom if anyone has it would be good.

A lot to do on this one but it's an interesting box.

Found another power lead in the packing box. This powers the second unit. Couldn't find the bracket though.
A couple of the dustcap bulbs are out but the box plays all being on one channel.

Member SLO had one of these, I think Dr DER has it now. I worked on it, what a MONSTER. That thing is an analogue computer!

It uses a series of cables and brackets to tie it all together. Certainly nothing your going to casually take apart.

I think it did have very good sound though
