These are the first decent pictures I've taken of my modest collection. I know, I know - it's small. But I am on a tight budget.
I was inspired to post this after reading member "mmcodomino's" 2012 Recapitulation.
It all started with the C-100 on the left. I had no clue as to the value of these, but I wanted a cool looking blaster to put in the little music corner in my humble apartment. Afriend of mine had a relative pass away and he was cleaning out the house and found it in the attic. He messaged me a pic while I was golfing and I picked up my ball on the 9th green and immediately drove to his house to pick it up for $0.00. It's been ON ever since!
Next, I picked up the 3-Piece Panny. I got it at a thrift in NH for, I think, about $4.00. I have used it as my "practice" box for mods, and it has been a great value. It was originally black, but sometimes I can't leave things well enough alone. It sounds pretty good and looks even better.
The Sanyo M9990: I was cooking dinner and trying to bid on a beater 9994 on my phone (hard work). I got sniped and the winner got it for like $74.00. I was actually looking for a 9990 as a sort of tribute to my grandfather. I told my tales of woe in the "Wanted" section, and member LLopez hooked it up at a very fair price. It's one of my favorites, thanks to it's portable size, classic design, and great sound at low to medium volume.
The little JVC at the top was a real "in-the-wild" score. I think I was doing a skylight estimate, and I saw this thing tucked in a corner near the customer's couch. I told him about my fixation. He looked at me like I had 2 heads. I offered him $20.00 and he was more than happy to part with it. It's kind of a cosmetic basket case, but when I find the time, I would like to get it tip-top (the day really should be extended to 30 hrs.). The tuner is great and I like the detachable tape deck.
The TDK: Simple. I saw Bill's (baddboybill) on here, and I needed one to go on living. Yeah, it's pretty cool.
I also got Bill's Panny 5010, but it was a gift for a friend. If I want it back I have to pry it out of his cold, dead hands.
Thanks for reading (if you made it this far).
I'm not sure about 2013. I'm hoping to move back to FL, but one box I'd like to acquire (as the buget allows) is a M9994 to keep the 9990 company.
All in good time.
Boomboxery has been a blessing. I have had a lot of fun on this site in the last 8 months. Can't wait to see more pieces of Awesome, more comedy, more tech advice, more "smart remarks," more useless eBay items....I could go on all day.
Happy New Year!
