Place it on a soft towel or soft surface when you work on it to avoid scratches to your beautiful M70.
Make sure to take pictures as you dismantle, and this will guide you to put it all back together correctly.
Lots of patience and good planning...
New to the forum. Not a collector. I am the original owner of this awesome box. Bought it new in ‘80 or ‘81. Don’t remember.
My goal is to get it reconditioned. Needs a tuneup. Everything works, but audio is staticky. Switches/knobs sluggish. Belts need changing. Need antenna. Cleaning, etc...
Many will say that the RC-M90 is the best JVC boombox, but if you can find a nice RC-M70, you will not regret it at all. The M70, in my opinion, is easier to work on than the M90. Also, the JVC RC-838 is a nice boombox.
You are exactly right. There are quite a few screws, but none for the upper center emblem. I had actually thought of using a piece of wood, maybe 1/8" thick, and screwing it to the inside of the emblem, with the screw heads on the outside. I tried hot glue. But, that wasn't good. Any...
...I pulled the trigger when I had the chance. Amazing tuner reception even though there isn't an external antenna. Sounds really good. Like JVC M70 good. With the right song, almost knocks on the door of M90 quality sound. Some say it outperforms the M90, but I can't seem to get to that...
I have never auditioned the Telefunken. But I have heard of it. That German engineering appeal impresses many people. I don't buy into that idea as much. I have to hear the unit and see how it performs, for myself. A brand name just isn't enough.
As I remember, the big boomboxes began to...
...everyone's itch.
For indoor enjoyment, I like the M90 and my RX-7000. For outdoor jamming, I like the C100. For portability & power, I like the M70.
My opinion on boomboxes, are that you generally can't go wrong with a JVC or Matsushita product. They have the best bang for the buck and tend...
I’ve just remanufactured the FF and Rewind Clutch plate/cap for my JVC KD-21 deck, and it appears to be the same part used in the RC-M70.
I’m looking for someone who can test my 3D-printed part on their RC-M70. Please DM me if you're interested.
I’ll send it for free, and you’ll just need to...
Happy to know you figured out the problem!
Good job!
Never give up!
After 5 years, one fine day I found the problem with a JVC M70 record button not engaging (won't go down).
I spend lots of time in the past, got so frustrated and finally got an M70 donor deck from our member Eric (caution) to...
...shouldn't cause any issues normally. Some glue turns conductive on cassette decks but I haven't read about any issues with conductive glue on the M70.
This is the video I was referring to, over 2 hours long:
here's another video and you can see that resin is there on the Victor model at 9:36
...is published as 30w (15+15) for DC / EAIJ. Not sure if this is another difference in convention. There is a similar difference between the global m70 and the JDM one: the JDM m70 is published at 20w EAIJ /DC while the global one is 30w. Is this about testing on batteries vs AC power? If the...
I really appreciate this advice, I think I might just settle for the AC route because I found a used Nisso stepdown like you mentioned for super cheap, but this is definitely useful and I might end up getting one of those Toshiba laptop chargers you mentioned just for the sake of making...
...trail; I learned from it when doing my Panasonic mod. The bigger Toshiba charger is rated at 15v6amp or 90 watts. This is more than enough for a m70 or m90. The 5amp one is enough too. I have measured the output: it is a stable 15.35v; they have thick cables; fuse; shielding; there is no FM...
I am powering a Victor m70 with a15v 5amp or 6 amp Toshiba laptop adapter. You could try a generic one but these Toshiba chargers are the best quality. The jack is a perfect fit for m70 and if you get a Victor m90 too. This Victor jack is hard to find in generic adapters but the Toshiba laptops...
I read through this older forum pertaining to powering the M70, a lot of useful information there.

This would mean using either a 12v AD to DC wall wart adapter OR a step-down to 100v through AC-in should work for...
...and I'm in the US, where our grid is based on 120v. This Japanese model also lacks a voltage selector usually found on the side of the other M70's from other regions. Now keeping in mind I'm not very well versed in electric power supply/load etc which is why I'm reaching out to you more...
Second post on this site, today I put in ten d-cell batteries (which seems like insanity to me) into my Victor RC M70 to finally try it out, but it makes loud obnoxious popping and cracking sounds when anything is even gently adjusted. Power indicator and dial lamps work fine otherwise. I really...
...the VU meters swing to the same level on these listening tests. The volume on both boxes set at 4.
I think there is a similar difference in the M70 boxes. The 'overseas' models come in two different power ratings by W at the back. The Japanese domestic version is of the lower rated one.
