Ahh sounds sweet! Well in a way bass is kind of wasted outdoors... It's mos def the mids and highs that carry in open areas. Congratz on two gorgeous boxes anyway man! :drool:

Yes, it is real clear and crisp also LOUD AS HELL! Its not a big thumper, like MONO said the Crown has better bass.. But the Hitachi just SCREAMS!! I was surprised when I got it.. :w00t: Anything below 5 on the Volume sliders is good for "indoor loud", but anything 6-10 is "outdoor blastin"...

Judging from the sound of my 3 Perdisco's and what I remember of the 950 I used to own, the Crown has better bass... If that Hitachi 8290 sounds similar to my best sounding Perdisco, the TRK-8800RM, it has better highs than the 950.

Hard to tell what's rare. I got four and a half Hifi Studio's for example :lol: But they ain't rare at all over here. Same with the CSC-950, they are on ebay Germany all the time, I never got one though. My Crown CSC-350 and my Pioneer SK-909 should count as rare (anywhere). Conion C-126? Or...

These are my rarest boxes... I consider these rarer than others I have due to how hard they are to find here in the UK Also, checkout the Crown 950 with green top section AND power button with extra function switch on the left, I have never seen one of these before anywhere.

I got the 492 from member Tha Fuzz :thumbsup: Well I say the Crowns are somewhat rare because they don't show up on eBay in states very often :hmmm: I have seen maybe a handful of them in the last couple years. I just got my 850 from Max in Germany and its a 220v only box :yes:

I wanted to start stripping down my 950 today for a bit of a clean up and refurb but stumbled at the first hurdle. Ive got 6 case screws + 2 more in the battery compartment out but cant get the unit apart, seems it could be stuck around the deck door. obviously i dont want to force anything...

such a Crown 950 on Monday I get my sadly lacking in the cartridge door, he has a great sound :thumbsup: just not to do ih too loud or else it rattles because the Crown has 850L more pressure at high volume :yes:
