I could hear them starting to go. There was a slight rattle, so I thought I'd capture the moment on camera. Had to pump up the bass a wee bit

Got a FH 10 for free 5 years ago . Foams were already gone . Previous owner did that for me

Yeah, foams going or incorrectly newly installed will metallic rattle that voice coil. Weird though how increasing the bass, the movement of the speaker, helped. Might get away, for a bit longer, by removing and rotating the speaker 180 degrees, either way refoam is suggested.

I have one that needs surround replacement. I replaced the speaker with woofers from center speakers of home audio but no match to the sound quality of those APM woofers. I will try to get those surrounds replaced.

Yes, they are available!
I don't like those foam types that go bad within no time. Imagine it is 2.0 mm thick damn foam.
I prefer the cloth-reinforced rubber type surrounds. Cloth/fiber
There must be a way to make those with a mold.

A while back, I ordered the cloth style for a pair of M90 woofers.

If a 3d printed 2 sided. Mold could be made you could use polyurethane as the actual surround material.

I meant dispersed fiber technology in rubber for surrounds.
Actually, fibers are dispersed in rubber compounds and that is the latest technology for making surrounds in high end speakers.
Synthetic polymers like polyurethane types comes second for durability and sound quality.

I noticed that as well. The apm with the rubber surrounds are the best there's no contest .

Rubber will change the speaker characteristics completely if not originally supplied. You'll get another 30-40yrs out of a set of new foams.
New foams arrived today.
I had to be careful because the originals were glued with a thick bead of rubber solution. That had to be removed. I couldn't cut it with a blade because I was applying too much force to the edge of the driver.
My best solution was a pair of nail clippers.
They look good. I'll wait for them to dry before I give them a workout.
