VU meter could be just stuck from dirt and stuff or spring could be broken ;-)

Thats what i was thinking.... well i thank you guys for helping me out but i think the best thing for me would be to sell it to someone that knows what they are doing and i hate to just see it sitting here on my shelf not working as well it should.... ill be posting it up on the sale section.
Thanks again guys.

Post pic of pulleys
.
OK, here goes. I bought it. :-D

Belting was pretty straightforward. Only now it won't work correctly all the time. Sometimes only reverse.
Anybody that has worked on one of these see anything wrong? :hmmm: :annoyed:

The belt may be a little tight and causing the pulley/gear not to move outward or to loose when pulley/gear moves inward

Before I forget, do you remember if the pulley on the tape motor has a red coating on it? It had some that was all chewed up and I had to remove it.
Now it seems too tight? If that was there to keep it from slipping wouldnt it now be loose? :hmmm:

Thanks ahead of time! :smooch:

OK, now the deck functions correctly, except that it will not play. FF, rev, all fine but when you push play it runs for 5 sec and then shuts off, no wheels having turned. Not quite sure what to make of this. :hmmm:

The main problem before turned out to be a bad power switch. Every time I turned on the deck, the power light would dim? So, re-soldered it and now the deck would be fine if I could just get play to work. :annoyed:

Back to the lab...

Ken it could be the famous symptom of these unit where heads are not fully going up into position. If you check post that K2J gave, you might be able to figure it out. Broken part can be fixed with a bit of JB weld ;-)

yes it common for the plastic piece where the heads sit and that spring that's under the heads normally snaps under pressure I guess of a lot of use ,,if they would have used a metal plate instead of the plastic there would never had the problem ,,and for the o-ring belt I would find a regular o-ring I have tried that on numerous boxes with good results, and been able to keep deck working    btw do not use the belt too tight it causes the deck to not work correctly

Spring is fine.
Plastic post is fine.
Everything is mil-spec clean.

It's as Brent noticed, the head still needs to come up a ch or two. :annoyed: I installed his cable-tie fix and presto! Normal operation. Other than that, it needs a new meter 'cause the right side is tu :sadno: & the left side has no real range on it's scale, it's either on or off really, with battery check convienently right dead balls on in between. :bang: I'm sure I'll find one, #1831483 somewhere. Too bad, they were pretty nice, those meters. The two scales along with the plastic case are still good, though.
Other than that, it's all as MR. G said. Cosmetically, very nice w/ that legendary Blockbuster bass, and honestly, better highs than I had expected. Perfect mate for my GE Mono 3-5280A. Hey, future post, all wrapped up. Might as well take all the pics at once.
Well, 'till some one figures out a permanent fix, here's another big shout-out to Brent, :thankyou:

...and one for Bill :thankyou: (how long does Bill have to wait for his smilie?)

...and for Ramon :thankyou: :monchito:

...and for everyone who has chimed in across two threads in the continuing saga of the Blockbuster/SCR-8 deck issues :gathering: :thankyou:

Mmmmm, soundin' good tonight. :dj-party:

It's on the other side under the heads.
The plastic part in my SCR-8 was black.
The spring is a torsion not coil.
