DJ-Tech Boombox MP3 Recordings

Ok Everyone. As most of you all know I have been recording on my DJ Tech Boombox ever since I got home from work today. Using my tablet I've been using the headphone jack while online. I feed the audio from that into the DJ Tech box Aux2 Input.

Below are two examples of how decent the recordings are. They would be much better if I was actually coming from CD. They even have a slight hiss in the background just like a cassette so I feel like I'm making a mixed tape.

Simply click the No Thanks Proceed to Download link option at the bottom of that dialog box. The files cannot be played directly from dropbox so they will need to be downloaded. They are 4MB or less for each MP3

First one is a Country song I played off of YouTube and Recorded onto SD then uploaded to dropbox.

Thanks for sharing this songs. Lets see more info about files:
Your recorded mp3 file is 128kbs, 32.0 kHz, song quality is low - about 9 kHz. (pic 1)
The same mp3 from internet, 320kbs, 48.0 kHz, song quality is very good - about 18-20 kHz. (pic 2).
I thing DJ Tech Boombox is good for vocal recordings or low quality songs,
but for perfect mixes and recordings must use other quality devices.

I wonder how this relates to cassette Type I bias recording?

Hi Reli. The bass was up one click from center and treble was all the way. I keep the treble turned to the max because the highs are so soft on this box IMO. Coming off my tablet was probably not the best way to do this. Eventually I'll try to get around to coming from an audio CD.

Side Note:

Today when I got home I checked my battery after charging all night most of the day. Looks like 12.4V is it. Once the light goes steady on the box it cuts power. You can watch the battery voltage climb until the light goes solid. So basically it's only charging the battery 75%. What's weird is if I keep the box in stand by mode it will blink forever. The voltage still only goes to 12.41 on the battery but the light just keeps blinking. Once you flip the master switch to off the light will go steady or if you disrupt the charging process after the battery has reached 12.4 volts it blinks 5 times once the adapter is plugged in and then goes steady. IDK. I estimate the battery to be charged around 75% its capacity.

I'm not going to worry about it because I have the 5ah battery. So instead of 14 hours on a 100% topped off battery I'll only go 10.5 at 75% which is just fine with me. The battery was at 12.77 when new so I don't think maintaining it at 12.4 will shorten its life. My factory charger is on its way but I can't see that making a difference. Same voltage and less amperage so I expect to see the results the same.

The fault must be with the charging management circuitry that may be acting as a parasitic drain on the battery!? There must be a way to bypass this circuitry and simply connect the battery to an external automatic charger.

Sure, you could just live with it as is but it would drive me crazy not having a fully charged battery.

It's beyond my ability. The charging system has multiple functions. When the adaptor is plugged in it uses a relay to separate the battery from the radio while charging to protect the radio. You'll notice when you are playing the radio on battery and then connect the adaptor their is a split second pause in power.

The only way I know to fix it is to replace the lower board responsible for the charging circuit. I'm sure there is a resistor or component that's slightly out of spec.

It bothers me too never seeing all the charge lights coming on. I'm just not smart enough with electronics to figure out what component is to blame so I have no choice other than returning it which now that I've modified it with the new battery is doubtful they will take it back.

Personally if I could tap on to the battery and have charging posts on the outside of the box I would just use my car trickle charger which takes batteries up to 13.29. I could call it franken-box since it would have two large metal terminals sticking out of the head of the box

I'll just live with it. 5 to 10 hours suites me fine.

You can fix this!!!! The amp etc will see the same voltage when a fully charged battery comes off charge (13.90 volts) whether it's coming from the internal circuitry or from an external charger. All of the 12 volt amps I've ever seen are designed to handle between 14.0 and 14.40 volts.

Just fit a 5mm female plug into the case somewhere convenient. Run separate power cables from the SLA battery to the 5mm plug. Buy a good quality 600maH automatic charger (By the sounds of it, the replacement one they're sending you will be poor quality anyway). Cut off the alligator clips and fit a 5mm male connector. Leave all the existing connectors and wiring connected to the battery. Plug in and enjoy!

The existing circuitry will just assume you're running off battery power and you'll have no stupid delay in the amp output when you plug and unplug the new charger circuitry. The amp will love a fully charged battery!!

Maybe I'll look into this further. I actually have female and male plugs with wire terminal screws on it and I used one of my existing chargers to get the Power Kingdom battery up to 13.29V
