3 piece boxes look too much like a home shelf system and the detachable speakers usually make them a little more fragile when handling for my tastes. In my mind, they are more like a cross between my ideal portable and a home shelf system. Detachable speakers? That would be portable stereo blasphemy! To each his own so no hate mails please.
OK, OK. On a lighter note, IMHO you would be comparing oranges and apples.
